Another Wii Price Drop [2 comments]

May 5, 2011

If you’re STILL holding on out purchasing a Wii…hahahha. Sorry. I can’t help myself. Let’s try this again.

If the current price tag of $169.99 for a Wii console is a little high for your liking, don’t fret! Starting on May 15th, you’ll be able to snag a Wii console for $149.99. There will also be a slight changeup in regards to the included accessories and games. Currently, a standard Wii console comes with Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. Starting on May 15th, Wii consoles will come packaged with Super Mario Kart as well as a steering wheel.

But that’s not all!

Nintendo will also launch a new line of budget games called Nintendo Selects. Think of it as the Nintendo version of PlayStation’s Greatest Hits. The first four titles that will be inducted are The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Wii sports and Mario Super Sluggers, all of which will be available for $19.99.

Sounds like Nintendo is cleaning up shop. I WONDER WHY. ::GRIN::

New Nintendo Console news! [2 comments]

April 22, 2011

I’m sure Nintendo is aware that the 3DS only just launched last month, but news about their brand new console is already spreading across the internet like wildfire.

The console is essentially “Nintendo HD”, and there are rumors it will be announced at this summer’s E3 convention. As a Nintendo fangirl through and through, this excites me.

Shigeru Miyamoto (the creator of games such as Legend of Zelda and the Super Mario series) confirmed that the console does in fact exist. I’d say he’s a pretty credible source, wouldn’t you?

Up until now the project had been nicknamed “Project Cafe”, though other names that have been kicked around include “Stream”, since it has the option of streaming images to the player on what will hopefully be a built-in touchscreen right on the controller.

That name is just an idea though, as it’s very similar to not only “Steam”, an already popular gaming distribution system, but Nintendo’s own “Wii”.

I can already see the looks on the kids faces when they ask for a new Stream for Christmas and their hard-of-hearing grandparents present them with a Wii they found half price at a garage sale – old school! Thanks a lot, Grandpa!

Surprise (not): We Dare Won’t See a US Release [5 comments]

February 28, 2011

Ahh, yes. I can hear the collective sound of disappointed “AWWWs” now.

Ubisoft has “empathetically” told IGN that the self proclaimed sexy, quirky party game We Dare will “absolutely not see release in the United States.”

You know what’s hilarious? Ubisoft blocked North American viewers from accessing the official trailer on YouTube. It’s like, really? You’re so ashamed of this game your company is making that you block access to it? I feel like I just got parental control’d on my internet.

Anyway, for some laughs check out the official description I found on We Dare’s site:

We Dare

  • Product DescriptionWe Dare is a sexy, quirky, party game that offers a large variety of hilarious, innovative and physical, sometimes kinky, challenges. The more friends you invite to party, the spicier the play!
  • Provocative Controls Use your controller in the most unexpected ways, as you’ve never imagined before… wave it around to the beat of your favourite tunes, old and new… sometimes co-operative hugging helps, and it certainly doesn’t hurt. Enjoy the unique game play designed for the use of the Wii-mote or the Move controller exclusively made for We Dare. And there’s more! You can also use your Wii Balance Board for additional game play based on pure mass… are you the lightest one in the group? Perhaps shedding some clothes will even the playing field… it’ll definitely make the party more interesting!
  • A Customized and Enticing ExperienceCreate and customize your own cheeky avatar, from head to toe. Personalize him or her to fit your taste, to match your likeness or be the person you’ve always thought you could be. Are you a Femme Fatale? A Jock? The Girl Next Door? Create the game to your liking. Choose the length of play and the size of your group… in this game, size does matter… the bigger the group, the better the fun, and anything goes! Get up-close and personal with your friends with this wide variety of naughty and silly challenges. Use your smarts… or just pure luck if you have to… to answer pop-trivia questions and ultimately out-perform your playmates while proving you’re flexible, uninhibited and adventurous. This is an invitation to let yourself go, because life is short and what happens in this game… stays in the game!
  • And a satisfying finishThe final peak of the game ends in a light hearted, match-making session. Which of your friends is your best match for Love or Friendship? How you play, how you answer questions, how well you perform, and finally, how you chose to create your avatar, will ultimately determine your perfect match.
  • Key FeaturesA wide and varied range of 40 fun and flirtatious games:
    - Select the mood of your party: Enchanting, Persuasive, Naughty, Adventurous and Brainy.
    - Dance to your favourite tunes from film and radio.
    - Challenge your mates to a flirty strip-tease.
    - Multiplayer up to 4 players. A hilarious light-hearted atmosphere with clever characters, coy mini-games and internationally popular music hits: such as Sex Bomb, (I’ve Had The) Time of My Life and many others! Now. Are you ready to play?

Sexy Wii Game? “We Dare” [11 comments]

February 24, 2011

Ubisoft, why? I loved you so much for Just Dance. But this? This is a game? Like, for real? Not some weird unfunny spoof?

(Edit: Ubisoft blocked the ad from the US. Entronews uploaded a US-friendly trailer, now seen above.)

I’m sorry. I missed the “sexy” part. And the “game” part. Even the actors in this video look uncomfortable, like they may be laughing on the outside, but crying on the inside.

What is this I don’t even…

Woohoo! Super Mario All Stars Limited Edition is coming to US! [9 comments]

October 28, 2010

Sure, I have a few perfectly healthy, working SNES consoles and a few copies of the original Super Mario All Stars, but something about this lil’ Wii package makes me delightfully happy.

Games included are Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3. Each game will support the Wii Remote controller, Classic Controller, Classic Controller Pro and the GameCube controller.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL!

Each game will have improved sound and “enhanced” graphics. Ooh…pretty…

BUUUUT THAT’S NOT ALL!

You’ll also receive a soundtrack that includes music and sound effects from the original Super Mario Bros., Mario Galaxy 2 and everything in between.

BUUUUUUT THAT’S NOT ALL!

Amidst this collection is a 32-page booklet that includes behind-the-scenes info such as original concept art, interviews and a history lesson on Mr. Mario.

And the price tag? $29.99.

Noice.

Look for it December 12!

Extra Life Recap [3 comments]

October 18, 2010

A giant thank you to everyone who supported Britt and I during our quest to play video games for 24 hours straight. Whether you donated, played along, visited us, or chatted with us on our livestream, all of the support we received was amazing and an excellent motivation to keep on playing. Especially at 5am when things started getting rough.

(A bit of our livestream when Michael Robles was over teaching us Magic)

And now: My recap of some of my favorite happenings. Probably not in correct time order, as the whole 24 hours is one jolly sleepy blur in my mind.

-I played L4D for the first time. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m still getting the hang of FPS, but I don’t think I was too awful! Zombies are scary, man. And the witch totally killed me. Twice.

-Michael Robles of WOTC visited, and showed Britt and I how to play Magic: The Gathering, thanks to the Xbox Live game, Duels of the Planeswalkers. Their tutorial was really good and I’m excited to try an actual card game! A bunch of my guy friends (Forest, Zach, Alexander, and one of Zach’s friends) hung out and played some Magic cards while Britt and I got back to more video games. We also chatted a bit about all of our new fave thing: Gamma World. Be on the lookout for a review in the next day or so!

-Jim from Kirby Krackle visited with goodies in hand. We played some Guitar Hero. Apologies to those watching while I stumbled through my first couple tries with the game. I’m good at finding beats and rhythm in songs, but something about music-based games freak me out. Those dots coming up… I just get flustered. Which is why I hadn’t played much of Guitar Hero, DDR, or Rock Band before. But let me just say: By the time 7:30am came along, I was slowly getting the hang of it. I’m still not ready to go off “Easy”, but I at least know what I’m doing and how to hit the notes!

-Seattle Geekly stopped by and brought along Brunswick Bowling for PS3 Move. They were pros! Bowling was a nice, calm yet active break from our other gaming. We also did a bit of “Just Dance”, as neither of them had tried it before. Matt didn’t want to have anything to do with it, but ended up rocking with the high score!

-Fire Alarm. While Seattle Geekly was over, the fire alarm in my building went off. We all evacuated. Britt started grabbing all of her consoles and throwing them in a box so she could take them with her. I grabbed my DS so we could continue gaming while we were outside. I didn’t want our 24 hours of gaming to not count due to a fire-related technicality! It turned out a baby on the 2nd floor grabbed the alarm, and there was no fire. Or as the chatters on our Ustream said, we were “pwned by a baby”.

-Just Dance: Happy Feet Style. My friend Lisa stopped by, dressed as a penguin. Apparently she just finished shopping for her Halloween costume and got cold, so she put it on. Ustreamers were loving this, so we had her “Just Dance” as a penguin. Gifs were made. Lisa is now internet famous.

As the night went on, our energy declined. We tried a couple fun things to stay awake, including playing Resident Evil while blasting pop songs. We beat a giant snake while listening to Britney Spear’s “Toxic”, and listened to songs like “Backstreet’s Back”, “Bye Bye Bye” and “Genie in a Bottle” while blasting the heads off of zombies.

We kept playing Just Dance, Guitar Hero, and even a bit of Wii Yoga near the very end of the night to keep moving. Even though Britt looked like she was gonna kill me if I didn’t let her get some sleep.

If you wanted to donate but didn’t get the chance, you still can. Extra Life will be accepting donations until November 15, 2010. They’ve already earned over $430,000…. I’d love to see what us geeks can do in the next couple weeks!

Hope to see you all next year!

I want a Lego WiiMote! [1 comment]

October 13, 2010

Oi! Lego maniacs!

Do you like?

I hate to squash your dreams (although, I apparently already took care of that this morning) but you cannot compile the remote from scratch using Legos, batteries and well placed Elmers Glue. You can, however, spruce the remote up by using bricks that are provided with your purchase. Think of it as…bedazzling.

This brings me back to my days of youth. I remember I had this bomb Lego tray thing that opened up in the middle to a Lego filled abyss. I built mean castles.

Look for it this week at places that sell these things.

Edit: I FOUND A PICTURE OF THE TRAY THAT BRINGS ME BACK TO MY DAYS OF YOUTH!

…that more anticlimactic than I thought it would be.

Pass me my Sonic Screwdriver! [4 comments]

August 25, 2010

So, most of us will never be swept off our feet by the Doctor, pulling us from our lives of mediocrity into the exciting adventures he goes on every day in outer space. Many of us will never step foot inside the magical machine that is the Tardis. But now BBC Worldwide have announced the next best thing being brought to Earth by Asylum Entertainment:

Doctor Who: Evacuation Earth for the Nintendo DS and Doctor Who: Return to Earth for the Wii.

Nothing much else has been said about gameplay (whether we’ll be fighting Dalek’s, learning to drive the Tardis, or dressing up Amy Pond in the Doctor’s closet full of period appropriate costumes is still a mystery) but it does sound like the games will be based on the most recent season featuring Matt Smith as the Doctor.

I don’t know about you, but when it comes to a WiiMote, I’m thinking “sonic screwdriver”?

Star Wars Yoga [5 comments]

August 2, 2010

So I’ve been trying to get into this things called “exercise”, and it hasn’t been going well. Even EA Sports for the Wii kicks my butt! But this… this I could get into.

Matthew Latkiewicz has created some “Star Wars Yoga” poses and are unveiling them in his blog as if they were being created by Lucas’ marketing team. But I would actually do these. Take a look at the full set here, and let me know which pose if your favorite:
