Comic Day Countdown: What I Want

Free Comic Book Day is coming up this Saturday, and I am celebrating by sharing some of my favorite comics this week!
Take a look at yesterday’s post on Spell Checkers,
Wednesday’s post on Night Zero,
Or Tuesday’s post on Demo.

Today I’ll be taking a look at some potential comics I can’t wait to check out. I’ll probably be buying a couple of these tomorrow!

The Guild
guild
Everyone’s favorite web series now has an origin story! I’m excited to see these characters in a new medium for their 3-part miniseries. (Issues 1 and 2 are currently out).

Locke and Key
lockeandkey
Kenneth and Daniel recommended this over on our Facebook page, and I trust my Zaxyers. I’ll be looking for the 1st issue to pick up tomorrow! Locke and Key is apparently a horror style comic, and that intrigues me.

Simpsons Futurama Crossover Crisis
Photobucket
The title and image should be enough. I saw this in a bookstore but didn’t have the chance to pick it up. We all know I love Futurama, and this looks like so much fun.
Let’s just say Lisa serenades Fry with her sax, but it can’t compare to Fry’s performance on the Holophonor…

Did these comics pique your interest? Then join me at Free Comic Book Day! Take a look for the nearest store to you.

If you’re in the Seattle area, join me at Comics Dungeon in Wallingford at noon. We’ll pick out our comics, browse the store, and get some photos taken with StormTroopers! After that, join me across the street for some Dick’s burgers and milkshakes. Yum! Comics and burgers, I can’t wait! You can get more information on the specials Comics Dungeon will have going on this weekend on their Facebook event page.

Will I see you there?

YES. Dry Ice Blows Up Cinder Block

Don’t try this at home. But if you do, wear goggles and take a YouTube video.

This is why science is awesome.

But seriously. Be careful.

Comic Day Countdown: Demo Comics

Free Comic Book Day is coming up this Saturday, and I am celebrating by sharing some of my favorite comics this week!

What’s that? You haven’t been to Free Comic Book Day before? It’s only the most amazing day ever! Like Christmas, but you just get comic books. (Or maybe that is your Christmas, lucky duck!) Check out the website to find the nearest participating comic shop to you. You get some free select comic books, and it’s a great day to support your local shop… Perhaps you’ll be inspired to pick up some of the comics I’ll be mentioning this week! A lot of stores also do special events like photo ops or free signings.

The comic I’d like to showcase today is Demo.

Demo

I became a fan of author Brian Wood through Local, and ending up buying the paperback volume on Amazon on a whim. Not knowing what to expect, I started reading.

Demo is a collection of one-off stories about teenagers coming to terms with what makes them unique. Oftentimes, these characters have superpowers. But that doesn’t make this your average superhero story. These are darker, introspective, and focused on the character instead of the action. My kind of story.

Although Demo originally came out in 2003, it is now back with six more stories in the form of Demo Volume 2. These comics are being sold individually (as comics are oft to do), but will probably come out with a paperback collection at the end of the run. The first couple issues are available in your comic store now. I’ve read the first, and look forward to picking up the second on Saturday!

If you like flawed, introspective characters and neat thought-provoking endings, this is the comic for you.

Stay tuned… on Friday I’ll let you know when and where I’ll be on Free Comic Book Day. Hope to see you there!

Halo: Reach Beta Video!

Try to contain your excitement!

I don’t know how I feel about the new BR, I wish they would have left it the exact same. Also, that new game with all the skulls falling out seems dumb.

MEH. Come on May 3rd, come on!!

What’s Most Awesomest?

awesomest

The internet has a lot of awesome. But how do we know what is the most awesomest thing ever?

Mostawesomestthingever.com has the answer.

It allows participants like yourself to go and vote for what is more awesome between two absolutely random things.

Which is more awesome to you:

Microsoft Excel or Singing in Falsetto?
Bristol Palin or Internet Explorer?
Manual Transmission or Zombies?
Barry Manilow or a Stealth Bomber?

After you’ve spent a few hours wasting time voting, you can take a look at the awesome leaderboard and see what is indeed the most awesomest thing ever. So far, it’s the Internet.

I know what I’ll be secretly doing at work for the rest of the week. It’s surpassed Kittenwar.com as my favorite time-wasting-voting site. And I’m really rooting for these ones.
mittens
Mittens.

gangsta
Gangsta.

If the two of them battle, I’m screwed.

Splinter Cell: Conviction vs. LOST

So about a week ago I started watching LOST Season 1. (Word of advice: Don’t ever start watching LOST on an airplane!) I only started watching it out of pure boredom, which then turned into easy entertainment and now has become my obsession! I am DETERMINED to catch up before the final season finale so that I don’t get Snape Kills Dumbledore‘d after it airs on TV. I only have a matter of weeks to catch up! It’s shameful to say that when I get off work at 5 o’clock, I rush home, skip the chores, grab my puppy, grab some food and a beverage, and have a LOST-fest til I can’t stand to keep my eyes open anymore.

Since doing so, I’ve had frequent nightmares, I once woke up screaming (I heard myself mid-scream.. WEEIRD!!) and I’m terrified of the dark, imagining Walt covered in water in my bedroom. All of that aside, I’M LOVING IT! I think my friends are a little annoyed by my constant play by play text commentary (*ZOMG JACK & KATE JUST KISSED!*, *ZOMG I HATE SAWYER!* *ZOMG MICHAEL NEEDS TO CALM DOWN!*), but this show is totally worth the 2 weeks of laundry I’ve put behind me.

With that said, Splinter Cell: Conviction came out yesterday. I hope you all enjoy playing it, seeing as how I wont be able to manage the time for it just yet. (Damn me for not having a clone!) I saw the game at PAX which initially sparked my interest. The graphics look amazing! It has some kind of nice & clean-feel to it and I really look forward to playing multiplayer, however I cannot risk the finale of LOST being spoiled by any distraction.

I’m hoping that I’m not crazy (as I previously thought all LOST people were) and that I’ll be catchin up soon! (1 & 2 – LONGEST SEASONS EVER.) I’d like to hear some input on SCC since I haven’t read much about it yet. If it’s *The most epic game evar!-omg-omg-omg!!..”,* I’d definitely be willing to sacrifice a few hours from my busy LOST-fest schedule to see what it’s all about. If not, you can bet your bottom I’ll be at home ranting about Sawyer being a jerk, Kate bein a slut and OMG Jack! Knock it off with the temper tantrums! YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE MY FAVORITE!!

DIE EVIL GHOSTS IN MY ROOM!! DIE!!!!!!!

Dream catcher, weam smatcher! (Nice one!)

Product Site

Okay seriously, whoever came up with this product is a GENIUS. A LIGHTSABER NIGHTLIGHT?!?!?!?! There is not one thing about that sentence that doesn’t make perfect sense! Why didn’t I think of that! I must have one, but they are only available for pre-order right now. Being that I’m terrified of the dark (side) I don’t know how long I can make it. Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope!
