Tara Reviews Supernatural: Coyote’s Kiss [2 comments]

August 19, 2011

So… funny story. About a month ago, I was asked to review an “official Supernatural novel by Christa Faust called Coyote’s Kiss”. I said “Sure! That sounds good!” I like sci-fi/paranormal stuff, so I’d probably enjoy this book.

Then the book arrived. And it’s an “official Supernatural novel”. Like, from the show Supernatural. A show that I have never seen. Welcome to a review on a book based on a show the reviewer has never seen.

First, the synopsis, according to the release:
“When a truck full of illegal Mexican immigrants is found by the side of the road, the occupants slaughtered with violent and unnatural force, Sam and Dean are compelled to investigate. Guided by the tattooed, pistol-packing bandita on a motorcycle, Xochi Cazadora, the brothers are plunged into the terrifying world of Aztec gods and monsters. Soon their explorations lead them deep into the dark heart of Mexico City.”

Sounds good, yeah?

So, I gathered that Sam and Dean are the main characters of the show, and I referred to the picture on the cover often. Apparently this book takes place during season 6, in which Sam is soulless. There were a lot of mentions of going “to Hell and back” and I think some of them were metaphorical and some were literal.

I haven’t read a book based on a TV series before, and it was an interesting experience. Writing the book instead of a screenplay for an episode made sense in this situation, because the monsters sounded very cool, but would have probably blown through the season’s special effects budget. In addition, the book allowed the plot to take place over a longer period of time and include more details than an episode could.

The one weird thing to me about a book based on a series, is that it always felt a bit like fan fiction. I don’t know if Dean’s a major womanizer in the series, but holy cow, he was in the book. The entire book explored the sexual tension between him and every other woman, specifically the main (and usually half-naked) female character they introduced.

If you like Supernatural and are interested in Aztec legends, I’d recommend you pick up the book. If you’re not, I probably wouldn’t.

Supernatural: Coyote’s Kiss is available on Amazon for $7.99.

Do you watch Supernatural? Like books based on TV shows? Let me know in the comments!

My Great Big iPad Adventure! [2 comments]

April 6, 2010

So yesterday (& this morning) I got to toy around with an iPad. Despite it’s popularity for being such an “EPIC FAIL!” and the cause for an internet joke phenomenon, I must say that I was thoroughly impressed! The iPad has proved to me that it’s convenient, useful and extremely good for quality entertainment.

Bioshock2: It’s Ehhhh [1 comment]

February 11, 2010

So it’s been quite some time since I’ve played the first Bioshock. I can barely remember who is who and the names of what, but I do remember feeling sheer utter amazement and curiosity when I first started the original! It was amazing! The story kept me so curious and motivated and it is definitely the only scary (semi-scary for you brave-folk) game I’ve ever actually brought myself to play!

So anyway, I bought Bioshock 2 yesterday on the day of it’s release. I loved the original Bioshock and although I was doubtful, I still had high hopes for the sequel. I started playing and I must say that so far I am not thrilled. It seems just… ehhhh. Nothing really captivating or new. Don’t get me wrong, I understand it’s a sequel and it’s the freakin Rapture for heaven’s sakes! But what made me love the original Bioshock so much was it’s mystery and shock/awe values. Wandering into the mysterious underwater city was fascinating and creepy! Given that I’m familiar with Rapture now, the sequel is nothing I’m not used to and much less interesting if you catch my drift.

Sure we’re a Big Daddy who can now drill people, sure we can now go outside of the Rapture and go underwater, sure this little sister is kind of cute and endearing, but it’s still so blah to me! Seems repetative. And with all the other games out there right now, I’m way too underwhelmed with Bioshock 2 to dedicate my time to it. They should have released it before Mass Effect 2 came out and maybe then I’d be more enthusiastic!

Bioshock 2 Out Today! [2 comments]

February 9, 2010

Its Feb. 9th already! That means time to switch from Mass Effect 2 to Bioshock 2! Tis’ the season for sequels? Hopefully Bioshock will match up to the hype. I don’t know why but I don’t have much confidence! The first Bioshock was good and really creeped me out. I just don’t think that the story will be as creepy playing a Big Daddy instead of Jack!

However, even though I’m doubtful in its greatness, I know that I’ll still be scared to death. If there’s one thing in this world that I’m afraid of, it’s demented little girls. DON’T EVEN get me STARTED on the movie The Ring!  * Seven days..* AHH!

Can’t wait to play it tonight!

Wow. This doesn’t look cheesy. (Tekken movie trailer) [2 comments]

This looks bad. Really bad. But who am I kidding, I know I’m going to see it anyways.

The Mortal Kombat guy?! Shang Tsung aka Johnny Tsunami’s grandpa is in it?! I feel betrayed for some reason. Mortal Kombat was a huuuge influence in my childhood career of badass-ary. Why must he betray Mortal Kombat like that? *Sigh* Oh well. I guess I’ll just be thankful that Channing Tatum isn’t in it to stiff-face the crap out of every fighting scene.

Will you see it?

Braid is the 2-D side-scroller that I purchased from Xbox Live Arcade some time ago. I played it, I beat it and MY MIND WAS BLOWN. Like *WABOOOOOOOOOOM!* Sweet, sweet carnage!

It was so awesome, I thought I’d write an overview for those of you who haven’t played it because you should!
