Happy Portal 2 Day! [2 comments]

April 19, 2011

…Ok, so it was technically released last night. But those of us who needed our beauty sleep and/or had to get to work early didn’t have the luxury of playing yet. :-(

Anyway, the whole online world is psyched about the release, and TeeFury has a special tee up today in honor:

Are you playing Portal 2? I personally can’t wait to try out their co-op mode.

If you haven’t already gotten the game, you can get it for PC, Playstation 3, or Xbox 360 at Amazon.com.

Buying Portal 2? Get it for the PS3. [4 comments]

January 18, 2011

Remember when Gabe Newell took the stage during the Sony E3 presser last June?

Not the best picture. But it's awesome cuz I took it!

During his 5 millisecond appearance, Newell claimed that the PlayStation 3 would be the best console platform to play Portal 2 on. This was remarkable in itself seeing as Newell had bashed the PS3 in the past, calling it a “total disaster”.  So when Newell left the stage, he left gamers scratching their heads. Why did he say that the PS3 would be the console of choice?

Now we know.

The PS3 version of Portal 2 will include cross platform play and chat between PC, Mac and PS3 users, and upon linking PSN and Steam accounts, players will receive a  copy of Portal 2 via Steam for their PC/Mac at no additional cost.

This is simply awesome. The official presser is below.

PORTAL 2 PLAYSTATION 3 STEAM FEATURES REVEALED

January 18, 2011 — Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the Steam features shipping with the PlayStation 3 (PS3) version of Portal 2.

Marking the debut of Steam functioning on any next generation console, the features shipping in the PS3 version of Portal 2 include cross platform play (PC/Mac vs. PS3) for multiplayer games, persistent cloud-based storage of PS3 saved games, and cross platform chat (PC/Mac and PS3).

In addition, those who purchase Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 may unlock a Steam Play (PC & Mac) copy of Portal 2 at no additional cost by linking their PSN and Steam accounts.

“We made a promise to gamers at E3 that Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 would be the best console version of the product,” said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. “Working together with Sony we have identified a set of features we believe are very compelling to gamers. We hope to expand upon the foundation being laid in Portal 2 with more Steam features and functionality in DLC and future content releases.”

“We designed the Portal 2 PS3 experience to be very straightforward for gamers,” said Josh Weier, project lead on Portal 2 at Valve. “PS3 gamers will be able to simply drop the Blu-Ray disc in the PS3, link to their Steam account from inside the game, and all their Steam friends (on PC and Mac) will be visible and accessible for chat and game invites.”

These features are made possible thru the use of Steam, Valve’s platform for the delivery and management of games and digital content.

Portal 2 is due for release on the PlayStation 3, PC, Mac and Xbox 360 this April.

Portal 2′s Coop Trailer [2 comments]

September 9, 2010

I had the pleasure of seeing this trailer and a demo of Portal 2′s coop mode at PAX, and I am so psyched. The coop mode is supposed to be twice as long as the original game. It can be played in split screen on consoles or over a network connection, and will be available for PS3, XBOX 360, PC, and Mac on February 9, 2011. Just in time for Valentine’s Day. So find a loved one, get cozy with a bottle of wine, and send each other into an infinite loop.

What are your thoughts on the trailer?

Tara’s PAX Top 5 [7 comments]

August 27, 2010

The Zaxy girls are all eagerly anticipating PAX, but for different things. Here are the top 5 things I’m most looking forward to. Be on the lookout for Britt and Kristina’s coming up soon! And if you’re at PAX, follow @Zaxydotcom and @ZaxyTara to find out where I’ll be and when!

1. Dungeons and Dragons
WOTC always comes up with something to bring the boys (and the girls) to the yard, and it sounds like they’ve outdone themselves again. They will have a freakin carriage full of things like monsters and Jones soda (best combination ever?) outside of the convention hall. Plus, they’ll be doing all types of demos and games. I won’t have time for the full Gamma World demo, but I am looking forward to the D&D convention delve of “Lair of the Dread Witch” featuring characters from D&D Essentials. And I’ll probably end up buying some more dice. I dont need more, but darn it, they’re just so pretty!

2. Controller-Free Gaming
Ok, I know some of you are hating on the Kinect. I get it. It’s not hardcore gaming. But I’m not a hardcore gamer. I like stuff that makes my friends look silly at parties and help me stay active while I’m inside “playing video games”. And honestly, Kinect and other controller-free gaming is a great way to test out technology that can end up morphing into something way cooler. I’m picturing Jetsons-style living. It will be amazing.

Kinect’s supposed to have a pretty awesome and flashy set-up at PAX. The Zaxy girls are also psyched for our demo of Kung-Fu Live, which puts camera tech and controller-free gaming into a multiplayer Kung Fu battle that will GUARANTEE that we have a great time and all look ridiculous.

3. Meeting People
Whether they’re bloggers, fans, developers, or random guys who jump on top of me to get a flying free t-shirt, I’m excited to meet them. I will take pictures with people in funny costumes, trade business cards with businessy folks, and chug beers with wizards at the Tri-Wizard Drinking Tournament. I can’t wait. Going to PAX? Please say hi! Take a picture! Tweet at us! Challenge us in a game!

4. Free Stuff
I’m a sucker for free stuff. And PAX has enough free stuff to keep me happy for days. Rumor has it that Death Spank will have ACTUAL thongs of virtue. So I’m pretty much set for life.

5. Zaxy Party!
We partied it up at PAX East, but this time PAX is in our hometown, and we’re hosting our own party.
Place: Neumos on Capitol Hill
Time: 7pm – 2am
Major Nelson will be there–will you? RSVP now to be in the drawing to be a part of our Geek-Off hosted by Ken Jennings. He’ll test your smarts and stamina in exchange for some wicked prizes. We also have bands and food and drink sponsors. What are you waiting for? RSVP!

Overall, PAX is going to be a blast. I already have demos set up with Alienware, J!nx, Kung-Fu Live, Portal 2, Tripwire, Slam Bolt Scrappers, and Glass and have a few more in the works. And in case you haven’t heard, there will be a DeLorean there in honor of TellTale’s Back to the Future game! OMG.

Are you going? What are you looking forward to?
