A new trailer was recently released for season 6 of Dexter. And I CAN’T WAIT. From other teasers and talk, it sounds like Dexter will be back to his old, serial killing ways, and perhaps will find some good in it all. But the best part? Effing Edward James Olmos will be a prominent character, specifically a professor of religious studies. And rumor has it, he may be the big bad evil guy of the season. Haven’t watched Dexter? You have the summer to catch up. Hurry!
(Ok, so this isn’t geeky in the gaming sense, but you’ve gotta leave the house and get some exercise every once in a while, right?)
I am not meant to be a circus person. And you know what, that’s ok. Some people are meant to swing gracefully from a trapeze and be all contortion-y. I’m not one of them. But let me back up a bit.
A few months ago, I bought a LivingSocial coupon for a class at SANCA, Seattle’s School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts. Sure, it said it was for a “Trapeze Class”, but I still didn’t quite know exactly what we’d be doing. I expected we’d be doing some stuff on the ground, or maybe doing some aerial tricks on a rope or something. But when we got there and were led to a giant white tent… I realized. We were going up in the air.
We started off with some stretches and basic exercises, and then climbed the giant ladder to the top to get used to swinging on the trapeze. It was TERRIFYING. I don’t get scared too easily, and have never been one to be afraid of heights, but holy cow. I got back on the ground, shaking, thinking “Ok, time to go home and have a drink.” Then they told us it was time to put our legs up on the bars, LET GO OF THE BAR, grab the bar again, and then dismount with a BACK FLIP. I about fainted.
But you know what? I tried it. I did it (sloppily and without any grace at all.) I may have been one of the worst people in the class, but I gave it my all. I jumped out of my comfort zone, and I’m pretty proud of myself. I may never do it again, but I’m proud of what I accomplished. Check out a video of one of my attempts:
If you’re ever looking for a great date, afternoon with the friends, or team building activity, Trapeze is an excellent thing to do. If you’re in the Seattle area, make sure you check out SANCA. The instructors were so patient and kind, and everything was EXTREMELY safe. It may feel like you’re gonna die when you first look at it, but when you’re strapped in and swinging, you’ll be just fine.
If you live in the LA area, drop everything you’re doing (seriously), and head down to Tempest Academy right now. This is one of the coolest looking Parkour gyms I’ve seen, complete with Super Mario themed obstacles and a foam pit! And the Tempest Freerunning team are amazing as they show off their skills in this video:
If you do go check it out, post a photo/video of yourself on our Facebook wall. We’d love to see you!
The Zaxy ladies ventured out to check out something AMAZING on Wednesday. A GAME TRUCK.
Yes, it's probably exactly what you pictured.
A Game Truck is a pretty simple concept. Giant truck, full of gaming systems. Not with us so far? Look:
Yes. "Holy Balls" is an appropriate response.
Four 50″ plasma TV’s, three Xbox360s, three Wiis and two PS3s take you into a sweet, sweet gaming heaven.
The games available are showcased when you walk in. (And for the parents out there, they’re removable, so your 6-year-old’s epic birthday party won’t have to include Call of Duty.)
Less than half of the gaming goodness available.
Game Truck drives to you and parks wherever: we played directly outside of a pizza place. Can you IMAGINE the possibilities? Park outside your favorite bar, play a round of games, loser gets the next round of drinks. Continue. Take a break for hot wings. Continue.
Game Truck also supports system link and has multiple copies of games, so when you want to organize a sweet Halo tourney in your backyard, it’s as easy as having them bring the truck over.
Zaxy may be in the process of putting together a Game Truck party, so stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter for more details!
Want more info or want to throw a party of your own? Check them out here!
Don’t want the holidays to end quite yet? Well, here you go. The Star Wars Holiday Special, abridged down to about 5 minutes. And let me tell you, it’s about 5 minutes too long.
We are so excited for PAX East… Jill and I are heading out on Thursday and will be there all weekend!
Jill can’t wait to demo games and I am really looking forward to seeing Dungeons and Dragons on Microsoft Surface!
Look for us at the Play On Booth, where we’ll be hanging out and chatting up gamers. We’ll also be signing people up to win a giant TV! Come by, say “Hi”, tell us your favorite part of PAX and enter the contest. If we’re not there, look for us on the floor. We’ll be in white hooded “PlayOn” shirts. We’ll also be tweeting from the conference using tags #PlayOn and #PAXEast.
Not going to PAX? You can enter to win stuff from PlayOn too. Just check out this page for a free trial and a chance to win an XBOX 360 or PS3!
On Friday at 7:30pm, Zaxy and PlayOn will also be hosting a meet-up at The Pour House, literally 50 feet away from the convention center. Over 21? Join us! Have a beer, talk games. It’ll be awesome.
We’ll also be hitting up some other parties/events in the evenings, so if you know of something we should be at (that doesn’t involve anything creepy like a 1 on 1 D&D campaign in your hotel room), let us know.
We can’t wait for Boston!
Will we see you there? What are you most excited for?
You guys, I almost peed my pants when I saw the video of this thing flying. JET PACKS! SERIOUSLY! And only $90,000. I don’t need a house or car, I’ll live in the sky.
