Movie Monday: Parallel Lines [1 comment]

April 12, 2010

Philips created a really neat campaign called “Parallel Lines” in which they had 5 different short films created using the same dialogue.

Every film is different, but they’re all extremely well done and visually stunning.

The dialogue they had to use is as follows:
“What is that?
It’s a unicorn.
Never seen one up close before.
Beautiful.
Get away, Get away.
I’m Sorry.”

Check out one of the films below:

You can see all 5 films on Philips’ website.

Movie Monday: Gamers, Captain America, The Kirkie [1 comment]

March 22, 2010

Every Monday I’ll take a look at some fun movie-related things. I’ll fill you in on movies being made, and what I’m excited to see in the theaters/on dvd. You’ll also get a fun short film of the week!

DVD Pick:

Dorkness Rising
The Gamers: Dorkness Rising

Dorkness Rising is an independent film parodying Dungeons and Dragons and the fantasy genre. It’s the second in the “Gamers” series, but I watched it independently and thought it was quite fun. Also, I totally went to high school with Brian Lewis, who is in the movie. I mean, I didn’t know him super well, but well enough to recognize him in the film. And that was pretty cool. If you play (or know people who play) D&D, you’ll enjoy this film. And it’s available on Netflix Streaming!

One cool thing about Netflix Streaming: You can get it on your Wii, XBOX 360, PS3, or Moxi and have it stream right to your TV with Play On. Play On are the folks we will be hanging out with at PAX East, and they are AWESOME. You can sign up for a free trial on your game system right now, and be entered in to win an XBOX 360 or PS3, plus all kinds of MLB stuff, if you’re into baseball. Win Win.

Movie News:

humantorch

Captain America has been chosen, and the studio wants: Chris Evans. Chris was already Human Torch in The Fantastic Four… do you think it will be weird to see him as a different comic book character? What are your thoughts on this?

Short Film of the Week:

The Kirkie is another film shown at the Sci Fi/Fantasy Film Fest in Seattle. It goes well with Gamers: Dorkness Rising, as they’re both lower budget films that are a lot of fun if you’re a fan of the genres. If you are a Star Trek or convention loving person, you will have a good time with this film.

Do you have a movie suggestion you’d like me to review/blog about? Let me know!

Movie Monday! 3D, Predators, Dead Snow and Alma [3 comments]

March 16, 2010

Every Monday I’ll take a look at some fun movie-related things. I’ll fill you in on movies being made, and what I’m excited to see in the theaters/on dvd. You’ll also get a fun short film of the week!

First off, I went to a great panel at ECCC on upcoming films. Hosted by Gareth Von Kallenbach, creator of Skewed and Reviewed, I learned that almost every sci-fi/horror film this decade is going to be made in 3D. Don’t believe me? Take a look at this list.
Movies that are rumored to be made in 3D:

Amityville Horror
Jeepers Creepers
Clash of the Titans
Friday the 13th 2
Green Lantern
Halloween 3
Harry Potter
The Hobbit
Jeepers Creepers
Night of the Creeps
Nightmare on Elm Street 2
Resident Evil 4
Saw 7
Tron Legacy
Transformers 3
Zombieland sequel

What do you think of the 3D trend? Is it here to stay? And does it add anything to the film? I don’t know about you, but I’m psyched to hear more about the Zombieland sequel. And if you like zombies, you’ll love this week’s dvd pick!

DVD Pick:

Photobucket
Dead Snow

I saw Dead Snow at SIFF last year, and it was a blast. This movie, about a group of young adults who get trapped up in a mountain cabin with Nazi Zombies (yes, you read that right), is violent, funny, and everything you need in a Zombie film. A couple disclaimers: This one isn’t for the youngins. There’s blood, guts, and sexual situations that might make kids squirm. Also, the film is foreign, which means it has subtitles. I saw a midnight screening and it didn’t bother me, but it’s better to know going in.

Coming Soon:

Predators

Predators is a gory, action-packed “reboot” of the Predator film franchise and is starring Adrien Brody. He is one of my all-time favorite actors and can be seen in films such as The Jacket (such a good film!) and The Village (which I actually really liked. Even though no one else did). Check out behind the scenes info on their website, and check back their on the 18th for the trailer!

Short Film of the Week:

Finally, I’d like to leave you with a fun short film. “Alma” was one of my favorite films of Seattle’s Sci-Fi and Fantasy Film Festival. It seems like a cute film about a girl and a doll store, but quickly takes a darker turn. It’s only a little over 5 minutes long, but you will love it!
