Every Monday I’ll take a look at some fun movie-related things. I’ll fill you in on movies being made, and what I’m excited to see in the theaters/on dvd. You’ll also get a fun short film of the week!

First off, I went to a great panel at ECCC on upcoming films. Hosted by Gareth Von Kallenbach, creator of Skewed and Reviewed, I learned that almost every sci-fi/horror film this decade is going to be made in 3D. Don’t believe me? Take a look at this list.

DVD Pick:

Dead Snow

I saw Dead Snow at SIFF last year, and it was a blast. This movie, about a group of young adults who get trapped up in a mountain cabin with Nazi Zombies (yes, you read that right), is violent, funny, and everything you need in a Zombie film. A couple disclaimers: This one isn’t for the youngins. There’s blood, guts, and sexual situations that might make kids squirm. Also, the film is foreign, which means it has subtitles. I saw a midnight screening and it didn’t bother me, but it’s better to know going in.

Predators

Predators is a gory, action-packed “reboot” of the Predator film franchise and is starring Adrien Brody. He is one of my all-time favorite actors and can be seen in films such as The Jacket (such a good film!) and The Village (which I actually really liked. Even though no one else did). Short Film of the Week:

Finally, I’d like to leave you with a fun short film. “Alma” was one of my favorite films of Seattle’s Sci-Fi and Fantasy Film Festival. It seems like a cute film about a girl and a doll store, but quickly takes a darker turn. It’s only a little over 5 minutes long, but you will love it!
