BlizzCon, here I come! [1 comment]

October 18, 2011

Raise your hand if you’re going to BlizzCon this weekend!

Okay, I promise, this post isn’t just a way for me to brag to everyone that I snagged tickets. I mainly wanted to announce that I’ll be there, spending my time going to parties and panels, reppin’ my channel and Zaxy, and takingpart in the full Blizzard experience. I’ve been to a lot of different types of conventions but from what I’ve heard, BlizzCon is held on a sort of uber nerd pedestal as the King of all Conventions, so I am pretty pumped to be going.

I’ve been playing WoW since spring of 2010 – my main character is a Human Fire Mage and my main alt is a Draenei Restoration Shaman. My band ALL CAPS has a song called “World Of Warcraft Ruined My Life” that was released around the time I started playing last year. I like murlocs.

I’m curious if any of you will be there, or if you’ve gone before, what the best things are to check out. If you can’t go/haven’t been able to, what are some things you’d like me to check out and report on when I get back? Think of me as your BlizzCon ambassador.

Whatever happens, I just hope I find this guy:

What a freaking dream boat. I’ll see you guys when I get back! Have a great weekend.

CONTEST: Win Tickets to Gen Con! [18 comments]

July 8, 2011

Gen Con is reportedly the “original, longest running, best attended, gaming convention in the world.” And we have 2 tickets to give away to a lucky reader! Only catch? You’ve got to get yourself to Indianapolis, Indiana from August 4-7 (of this year).

Up for it? Then all you’ve got to do is leave us a comment with your favorite memory of a con. Cons have a way of making life changing moments, and we want to hear them! Never been to a con? Tell us your dream moment! We’ll pick one person at random at 4pm PST on Monday July, 11th and announce it on the site.

To get you started, here are our favorite con moments:

Tara: Meeting Doug Jones at Crypticon. Doug Jones is one of the most amazing, talented, and kind individuals you will ever have the opportunity to meet. He’s been in films like Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth, and in my favorite episode of Buffy: “Hush”. And he gives the BEST HUGS EVER. You can’t help being in a loving mood when you’re around him! Bonus: He’ll most likely give you a nickname. I believe I was “Princess”.

Kristina: Playing Quidditch at Phoenix Rising, the Harry Potter conference that took place in New Orleans in 2007. Now I’m not athletic by any means, but who in their right mind can turn down a Quidditch tournament? Bonding with your friends over a fictional sport in the suffocating heat of the deep south in matching t-shirts? My team was comprised entirely of wizard rockers, and while we absolutely stunk at the game (and many of us had never played sports at all) and even had to forfeit one of our matches because one of our Keepers took too long finding a bathroom during a timeout, it still stands out as one of the best memories I have of my whole conference career.

Britt: The first convention I attended was PAX Prime 2009. I wasn’t considered media, I wasn’t considered an exhibitor, I was a just a regular wide-eyed fan eager to attend her first videogame rendezvous. Let me tell you, I don’t think any con moment tops the first time you wander onto a convention floor.

I remember being overwhelmed by the extravagant banners and the flashy booths. Everywhere I looked–to my left, to my right, straight ahead, on the ceiling—there were videogames, cosplayers, mascots, signs, posters, developers, swag….I was in freakin’ Heaven!

So get started! Tell us your favorite con moment (or dream con moment) in the comments!

October 25, 2010

It’s that time of year… pumpkins are being carved, scary movies are being watched, and slutty costumes are being purchased. Halloween is near. And this year in Seattle, Halloween’s gonna be even better than ever.

From Friday, October 29 to Sunday October 31st, you can come kick it with the Zaxy ladies at ZomBcon.

Max Brooks, George Romero, Chuck Palahniuk, and Bruce Campbell will be there.

Three Brazilian triplets fight zombies in school uniforms. I’m not making this up. You won’t want to miss meeting these ladies!

You’ve heard me talk about this graphic novel many times. Meet the crew and find out what it takes to create an HDR zombie comic in Seattle!

Booth Babe Changes at PAX [12 comments]

June 8, 2010

Photobucket

Our good friends over at Pixelated Geek posted an interesting article today about potential changes to Booth Babe requirements for PAX.

PAX polled their forums, and came up with the following conclusions:
60% of people polled love or like the idea of a “Booth Babe Ban”
20% are indifferent to the idea of a “Booth Babe Ban”

Most people would be alright with banning scantily clad models in exchange for people who actually know about the product they’re representing. Don’t get me wrong, people can be knowledgeable AND attractive, and they’re welcome to wear scantily clad attire if they are cosplaying an accurate representation of a character. This would ban booty short wearing bimbos that are there only to look bored and draw you into their booth.

I am all for this. I think it will encourage women to feel more welcome at conventions, as they’re not just seen as a piece of meat. It will also encourage more open, friendly conversation between the girls at the booths and the visitors, as they’ll actually know their stuff and be excited about the game.

What are your thoughts?
