Nintendo Controller Track Jacket [4 comments]

November 17, 2011

Finally! I can show off my love of classic gaming with an athletic-inspired piece of clothing!

In all seriousness, I think this is pretty sweet. And I would totally wear it, except I feel it would be a bit awkward on the ladies. Right? I mean, you’d just be asking for people to press your buttons…

Pixar’s “Brave” trailer released! [1 comment]

November 16, 2011

In the excitement of the Hunger Games trailer two days ago, I almost forgot how excited I am for THIS:

I can’t believe how incredible it looks — and how different it appears to be from other Pixar films! It’s the first one featuring a female lead protagonist, and so far, they seem to be doing it justice. The film is also the first to be co-directed by a woman (Brenda Chapman) so personally, I have high hopes for this film as a whole. I love the animation style as well; Merida’s hair looks fantastic.

The movie is set for a June 22nd release.

Drama with “Community” [2 comments]

November 15, 2011

Fans of Community may have noticed the show missing from the mid-season lineup NBC released yesterday. I admit to going a bit crazy and tweeting about it, speculating if this meant the show would be canceled.

According to the Huffington Post, the show WILL be returning, there just isn’t a set date yet.

I’m still upset. I think they should make a “Troy and Ahbed in the Morning” web series while we wait for it to return.

Do you watch Community? What are your thoughts on the mid-season lineup? Who is actually watching Whitney?

Hunger Games Trailer [1 comment]

November 14, 2011

I’m way too excited for this. The only thing that caught me off guard were the Tributes’ outfits during training. I know this takes place in a dystopian future, but I picture really basic outfits made of cotton for the training, not those snazzy tracksuit things.

Have you read The Hunger Games? Are you looking forward to the movie?

Gaming Problems – we’ve all got ‘em. [1 comment]

November 11, 2011

As an avid I spend a lot of time looking at pretty pictures of sunsets, cats, celebrities I like, you know; the usual. The other day, however, I stumbled upon a particularly awesome blog I just had to share with you guys. It’s called Gaming Problems.

The blog posts graphics with common gaming problems that anyone who’s ever picked up a controller can relate to.

Here are some of my favorites from the site:

CONTEST: OHiYa Friends Shirts [11 comments]

OHiYa Friends are cute and kinda weird. (Just like your fave Zaxy girls!) They inhabit t-shirts so you take them with you, wherever you may go. And lucky for you: OHiYa Friends wants to give some shirts away to Zaxy readers! All you have to do is “like” their Facebook page, and then leave a comment here telling us you did so. On Wednesday, November 16, we’ll randomly pick two lucky folks, and they will get to pick the shirt of their choice to have shipped to them. You can go extra-classy with a unicorn farting rainbows, like I have on above, or you can tell everyone how great you are with my fave shirt, “It’s Great Being Awesome”.

So check out their shirts, like their page, and continue to be awesome!

(Oh, and while you’re on Facebook, feel free to stop by the Zaxy page and say “Hi”!)

EDIT: We have our winners! Congrats to Joe (comment #2) and Vernon (comment #8) who were randomly selected using Max from OHiYaFriends will be contacting you soon!

Steam Hacked [Add a comment]

November 10, 2011

This message is going around to Steam users:

Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users,

Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6.  We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums.

We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums.   This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating.

We don’t have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely.

While we only know of a few forum accounts that have been compromised, all forum users will be required to change their passwords the next time they login. If you have used your Steam forum password on other accounts you should change those passwords as well.

We do not know of any compromised Steam accounts, so we are not planning to force a change of Steam account passwords (which are separate from forum passwords). However, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to change that as well, especially if it is the same as your Steam forum account password.

We will reopen the forums as soon as we can.

I am truly sorry this happened, and I apologize for the inconvenience.

Please change your passwords, check your accounts, and stay safe!

A NaNoWriMo web series. [Add a comment]

November 9, 2011

I’ve been kind of bad lately when it comes to posting on Zaxy – but I have a (fairly) legit excuse! I’ve been diligently trudging through NaNoWriMo, and I am happy to report I am right on track, nearly at 15,000 words today. :)

On that note, I thought it only fitting to share this cute web series I found called “Month of the Novel”. It’s about a girl attempting NaNoWriMo for the first time, and it’s interesting because you get to watch as her fantasy characters come to life and struggle with the fact that their writer isn’t quite positive what she’s doing with them.

Here’s the first episode:

If you’ve ever tried to write a novel, I’m sure you’ll be able to relate. :)

How to Find Geek Love [8 comments]

I’ve had some geeky friends (both male and female) ask me lately how they can find someone to date. They’re cute, smart, funny, and have super interesting careers and passions, but don’t know where to find like-minded people. So I come to you, Zaxy. Tell us your secrets. How do you find eligible dates? Online dating sites? Networking events? Clubs? School? Bars? Or do you just go about your business, knowing one day you’ll run into your soul mate? If you’re single, share your tricks, if you’re taken, tell us where you found your love. The future of geek love depends on it!

(And hey, if you’re in the Seattle area and interested in meeting some eligible bachelors/bachelorettes… I could probably hook you up.)
