Emerald City Comicon is coming up this weekend, and we can’t wait!
We’ll be tweeting, filming, and taking pics from the convention hall all weekend, and will be attending a variety of awesome events. Take a look at the details below, and stop by and join us!
Convention With guests like Felicia Day, Wil Wheaton, and Buffy and Fringe cast members, we’re there. There will also be tons of amazing comic authors (both for the print and web), as well as other fun pop culture booths and panels.
Buffy Sing-Along On Friday at 8pm, we’ll be at the Buffy-Sing Along of Buffy’s most musical episode: “Once More, with Feeling”.
NERDprov! See the Zaxy ladies perform as special guests at Unexpected Productions’ NERDprov at 10:30pm on Friday! I (Tara) will be performing, Kristina and Britt will be guest judging. (And they’ll be extra nice to Tara… right?!?) Show your ECCC badge at the door for $10 tickets.
Geek Girl Flashmob! We’ll be dancing along with a bunch of other geek girls in the convention center at 11am on Saturday. Join us! (And maybe… just maybe… we’ll be in our TMNT costumes.) After the Flashmob, we’ll be heading over to Shorty’s for Geek Girl Con’s lunch.
James Marsters and Kirby Krackle Concert Come see James Marsters and Kirby Krackle play at the Hard Rock Cafe! Show starts at 7:30pm on Saturday. Awesomeness will be had.
Will you be joining us at ECCC? What are you most excited to see?
Raise your hand if you’ve been to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. *raises hand* Okay, that wasn’t really necessary to my point, I just wanted to brag about having gone already.
My POINT in this post is that it was just announced that after the success of the first park in Florida, they’re opening a SECOND park in the UK. Another Harry Potter theme park! Can you imagine? MOAR POTTER!!
Warner Brothers has already bought the site for the park at Leavesden Studios, where all eight Potter movies were shot. Originally the idea was to give tours of the set to the public, but having hired the same team that created the magical park in Orlando, the project has expanded and will definitely be including theme park style attractions and rides to rival the park we have here in America.
To the delight of many British fans, London Mayor Boris Johnson said last summer, “We must be mad to leave it to the Americans to make money from a British invention.” Well, here you go, Johnson. Drink your butterbeer and try not to smirk too hard. The park is to open in 2012.
Guys, confession time. I’m not a LOTR fan. Yeah, it’s nice and award-winning and all. But fantasy just doesn’t quite do it the same as sci-fi for me. And LOTR is LONG. Like, REALLY long.
This, however? This I like.
It’s all pretty and musical and short! Now go do a little Hobbit dance and get yourself psyched for the weekend.
All the big blockbusters have been showing off their trailers this past week, and here’s another I’m excited for:
The trailer looks good and I love X-Men, but I’m a bit hesitant after Origins: Wolverine. I thought that was going to be fantastic, and it was SO NOT. What do you think? Will this be better?
A new trailer for J.J. Abram’s “Super 8″ was released during the Superbowl. I, being the geek I am, didn’t see it until surfing the internet this morning.
Rumor has it, the story’s about a group of kids trying to film their own Zombie movie. They witness the crazy train crash, and something inhuman comes out of the train.
Looks like it could be good. It has the same feel of the 90′s action movies that were popular when I was a kid, but with and added complexity that J.J. Abrams brings to his projects. I’ll be interested to see more about this movie as things are released!
Anne Hathaway as Catwoman (Or specifically, Selina Kyle. Catwoman’s alter ego.)
and Tom Hardy as Bane.
I’m a huge fan of Christopher Nolan, and have faith that he is going to make a fantastic film. And this cast? Just confirms it. These characters and actors are going to bring a lot of passion and intensity to the film, and I’m interested in seeing how they’ll be portrayed. Plus, Hathaway, Hardy, and Bale in the same movie? That is going to be one good looking cast.
What are your thoughts on these characters/actors?
The time is near for one of my favorite yearly activities: The Science Fiction Fantasy Short Film Festival.
EMP/SFM and SIFF team up to showcase 4 hours worth of short films. Some low budget, some high budget, all amazing. The films all completely range in their storylines, feels, and mediums. At the end of the night, you get a Q&A session with the creators and one of them walks away with the award of “Audience Favorite”. I’ve gone almost every year it’s held, and can still remember some films that I saw in the first year. You’ll instantly forget some, but others will stick with you forever.
Take a look at this year’s trailer:
The festival will be held at the Cinerama in Seattle on January 29th. You can purchase tickets here. (I recommend sticking around for both sessions).
Don’t want the holidays to end quite yet? Well, here you go. The Star Wars Holiday Special, abridged down to about 5 minutes. And let me tell you, it’s about 5 minutes too long.
