I wrote this post for The Geeky Hostess last year, and thought it would be applicable here as well. Good luck if you decide to brave any of the late night/early morning sales!
Today’s Thanksgiving. Or Black Friday Eve, as I know it. And Black Friday is serious business.
Wanna get in and out alive and with the prize? Then think of your competition as zombies. These rules from one of my favorite films, Zombieland, will keep you shopping:
1. Cardio Have you been training? Ir not, you better start. Walk some laps after eating your turkey. And pace yourself tomorrow!
2. The Double Tap Now, I’m not asking you to kill anyone, but instead refer to this as a “double check”. Double check your coupons and lists… make sure you get everything you’ve come for!
3. Beware of Bathrooms Are you a woman? Then stay clear of the bathrooms in malls and large stores. They’re going to be PACKED, and that will take away from your prime shopping time. Go to the bathroom before you leave home, and try to stay clear of liquids.
4. Seatbelts If you’ve tried to go to a mall anytime between Thanksgiving and Christmas before, you know the parking lights are CRAZY. And the drivers? Even crazier. Seatbelt up. Your life depends on it.
7. Travel Light Traveling light doesn’t mean you can’t have a big bag with you: keep it fairly empty so you can store shopping bags and flyers in it. And keep it big enough to “accidentally” knock it into the person grabbing that last game console you want. (But I didn’t tell you that.)
17. Don’t Be a Hero Know when to be a hero and when not to. Will that last action figure in Toys R Us make Christmas for a little boy or girl? Go for it. Are the streets icy and you’re sleep deprived? Stay at home. Your friends and family want you happy and healthy way more than they want any material item!
18. Limber Up Take a look at #1. Didn’t train? Then make sure you do your stretches before heading out. You’ll be pushing carts, holding bags, and picking out items that are both high and low on shelves. Make sure you’re ready!
22. When in Doubt, Know Your Way Out If you decide to go somewhere crazy (like Walmart), make sure you know your exits. Seriously. People are crazy there. Don’t get shot.
31. Check the Back Seat The Holidays are a gold mine for looters. Make sure everything’s locked, and check your backseat: make sure you can’t see any packages or bags from the outside.
32. Enjoy the Little Things You know, like free snow globes.
In the excitement of the Hunger Games trailer two days ago, I almost forgot how excited I am for THIS:
I can’t believe how incredible it looks — and how different it appears to be from other Pixar films! It’s the first one featuring a female lead protagonist, and so far, they seem to be doing it justice. The film is also the first to be co-directed by a woman (Brenda Chapman) so personally, I have high hopes for this film as a whole. I love the animation style as well; Merida’s hair looks fantastic.
I’m way too excited for this. The only thing that caught me off guard were the Tributes’ outfits during training. I know this takes place in a dystopian future, but I picture really basic outfits made of cotton for the training, not those snazzy tracksuit things.
Have you read The Hunger Games? Are you looking forward to the movie?
It’s been announced that Joss Whedon has adapted and directed “Much Ado About Nothing” starring a variety of actors from other Whedon projects, include Nathan Fillion.
This man is amazing. I can’t wait to find out more about the project. The official site is muchadothemovie.com, and will hopefully be updated soon.
Will you see a Whedon/Shakespeare movie? And after this and the Avengers, what story should he adapt next? (I’ve got my hopes set on “Beauty and the Browncoat Beast”.)
My own experience was pretty emotional when all of the craziness was happening with the end of the Harry Potter films — but I’ll admit I was a little teary even thinking of how the actual actors in the films must feel. We’ve been with Harry for all these years, but can you even imagine how it was for them? Waking up every morning to head into Leavesden to LIVE Harry Potter?
Well, now we actually can get a small taste of what that was like. If you buy the 4-disc box set at Target (when Deathly Hallows Part 2 comes out on November 11th) you can watch the 48 minute documentary made on set of the filming of the last two films.
I’m going to be a mess. Even the trailer has me weeping.
Fans of the book Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card probably know a movie has been rumored and talked about for the better part of the last… twenty-five years. But this time, it looks like it’s really happening! It’s been announced that Gavin Wood (who directed Wolverine) will be directing it, and recently a bunch of casting calls were put out for the film, including all the major roles (including Ender himself!)
There has been a call for ten characters to be cast, and according to an exclusive look on i09, the character descriptions and what we’ve been able to see of the script all look pretty solid in terms of this film following the book closely. The book tackles some hard topics like how dangerous and intense war can be and how important it is to understand your enemy, and as far as can be told now, the movie isn’t shying away from these more difficult themes. Thank goodness.
As always, nothing is 100% set in stone, but this is a lot more than we’ve ever been given before with regard to Ender’s Game becoming a movie. So for now, we sit and wait with fingers crossed that they do everyone’s favorite sci-fi book justice and give us the movie we’ve all been waiting for.
Last night, I was told Arrested Developement was confirmed to create a movie as well as 10 episodes to reintroduce the cast. I checked the calendar to make sure it wasn’t April, then pinched myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. It was true. So true. Creator Mitchell Hurwitz and stars Will Arnett and Jason Bateman told us so.
I can’t freakin wait.
According to Hurwitz, “We’re basically hoping to do nine or 10 episodes with almost one character per episode, where like the first episode will just be Buster. We’re kinda picturing it like, um, well the latest joke we have is that, you know, it’s Cambridge, Massachusetts and there’s all these scientists in lab coats and they’re waiting for somebody and Buster comes through the door wearing a lab coat and says `let’s begin,’ and they say, `you don’t get to wear the lab coat, we’re experimenting on you.”
Filming of the episodes and movies will occur in the summer of 2012, with an intended release in summer 2013. I’ll be interested to see if the limited episode run will occur on Fox, on the web, or on another network.
Guys, I swear I’m not giving up until every single one of you watches the new MLP series, “Friendship is Magic”. In this season’s premiere (which aired this last Saturday on the Hub Network), the end scene (not to give away spoilers or anything) closely parodies an iconic scene from Star Wars.
I don’t know why, but I’ve been easily scared lately. Maybe it’s watching the episodes of Doctor Who with The Silence, maybe it’s reading about creepy urban legends involving This Man… but seeing the trailer of The Woman In Black sent it over the edge.
Little children? Check. Ghosts? Check. Creepy-ass toys? Check. Yep. I’m not sleeping tonight.
On the plus side, looks like Daniel Radcliffe is looking a bit less awkward.
Will you be checking out this movie? What’s been scaring you lately?
(Also, I had to look up links for scary things to make this post. You’re welcome. I’ll be cowering in a corner, shaking.)
