Movie Monday: Michael Bay Will Ruin TMNT [18 comments]

For those who haven’t heard, Michael Bay will be producing the new live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Paramount and Nickelodeon. Luckily there’s no word on if he’s directing as well at the moment.
I LOVED Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles growing up. (Check out how excited I was about a TMNT notepad today on my twitter!) I don’t want Michael Bay ruining their witty pizza-eating-ninja-behaving ways. Seriously. I will cry.
What’s next in the 80′s-toy-turned-Michael-Bay-movie list? Hopefully not Care Bears. Tenderheart’s not a big fan of explosions.
(And according to IMDB, this is one of 14 projects he currently has in pre-production, including one titled The Birds. I sincerely hope he’s not trying for a remake of Hitchcock’s horror.)
What do you think about this news? Will he do justice to the TMNT? Who would you want to see direct it? Do you want it to be cheesy family-friendly fun, or dark and gritty?

dark and gritty for sure. like the old black and whites… use the weapons, they’re ninjas for gods sake! michael bay should be shot. i think you should get a martial arts director for this film
I remember FORCING my father to take me to the first two movies. The line we had to wait in was insane. I will blow him up mafia style if he messes with the Turtles…
As long as he sticks to the original graphic novels by Eastman & Laird, he should do ok (I hope).
The series has already had plenty of chances to make a movie the original fans of the book ,not cartoon wanted to see. Basically kids ruin everything that was made popular by the older gen. SCREW THE KIDS! Mortal Kombat was in arcades for everyone to see so why tone it down when it goes to theaters?? The reason it was succesful was because of how its originally presented. Movies/creators should stop selling out and changing their vision to appeal to everyone else. Matrix was rated R and it made a hell of a lot of money!Oh and their headbands better not be diff colors damnit! haha
I think it could actually turn out to be fantastic. Transformers was definitely awesome and i’m sure this will be too. Being that Nickelodeon is in partner, the witty comments might be cut short but transformers did have cursing robots. Don’t remember that from the cartoons…
Michael Bay is ruining my childhood after the fact…
Transformers, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm St, and now he is out to rape another one Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He needs to be stopped.
The only thing Bay should produce is himself in the ring against my hero, Uwe Boll.
hey, he’s only producing, not directing, afawk, and the director decides what happens and what doesn’t, the producer only decides if it is good enough to be put out there, if it will make money, so ease up on Bay a little, judge him by how well he guages what is done with the new TMNT(if its s*** he won’t put it out, if any good, might want to see it b4 u judge him.
but prob right, he might ruin it, transformers wasn’t even based on the originals. bumblebee was a volkswagon bug, not a camaro, so WTF is going on in his mind, a popularity contest?
Recently, TMNT have started to fade into an abyss, and it’s also begun to suck. The way I see it, it’ll be really hard to bring back the same TMNT we grow to love as kids. It’s a pity kids these days will miss out on how truly awesome the show was!
I just dont see how the Michael Bay generic formula of Tits, Ass, and Explosion can fit into the TMNT universe.
Sure Michale Bay taking over this franchise can bring it back to center stage like he did with Transformers, but at what cost?
I dig Michael Bay and I think that he’ll do some good for the franchise.
Michael Bay is only one nouch above Uwe Bol but it is because he has made one good movie, The Rock, and a couple of decent ones. I’m not a TMNT fan personally but he’ll most likly ruin an already mediorce franchise
I think I’m going to be sick. Bay should not be allowed to make anymore movies and Uwe Bol as well. The old stuff is still the best stuff and he can in no way do TMNT any justice.
Michael Bay said after the last Transformers movie that he will not be doing anymore action movies from all the harsh criticism he had been receiving. I’m too lazy to search for the link at the moment, but he went into detail about it.
Something about people think it’s easy to make an explosion that looks real but nobody gets hurt, but it’s really not. Then he cracked a joke about making his next directorial about some guys in wine country and being artsy.
the next Michael Bay movie he will do to ruin my childhood would be Silverhawk….or M.A.S.K….
