If you live in the United States and simply cannot wait until November to try Kinect, you may be in luck. Select Macy’s (of all places) nationwide will have Kinect available for your body flailing pleasure.  Random, out of the blue places will be hosting Kinect as well.  What better way to burn off those calories from the Taste of Edmonds-Food Festival than to play Dance Central, amirite?

If you can go to one of these, and are remotely intrigued by Kienct, I would encourage you to check it out. I went body-on with Joy Ride and Kinect Adventures at E3, and while it was exactly what you would expect, it was quite amusing.

Also, apparently starting July 27th, if you go to www.macys.com/glamorama  you can enter to win a free Kinect. But I wouldn’t recommend going there now—you’ve been warned.

It’s pretty obvious that Kinect is Microsoft’s attempt to cash in on the “casual” market. Still, I have to question their direction. Leaving the “hardcore” gamer out of the picture seems like a dangerous choice, especially with the entry price being higher than Playstation Move.

Also, the need for a tour this extensive kinda feels like a test/marketing event. If it doesn’t win over the audiences, it’ll be interesting to see what MS does about it.

  2. I think Boots33, has a good point. If they were targeting any of the “hardcore” crowd, I bet the tour would hit PAX. That is unless they just have a booth, then it wouldn’t be part of the tour. Paxsite.com doesn’t show any sponsors yet, so can’t check that way.

  3. Well, for starters look at the locations in which the tour is taking place. Macys? Food festivals? Fairs? I think if MS really wanted to attract the hardcore audience there would be setups at Gamestop, Best Buy, etc. Microsoft is definitely depending on getting the casual audience on board; a solid install base is required before several developers hop on board with Kinect.

Once (if) that occurs, I think we’ll start seeing more titles geared toward the ‘hardcore’, but I honestly don’t know how they’re going to do it w/o the implementation of some sort of physical controller.

I’m almost certain Kinect will be at PAX. Microsoft is signed up, so it would be ridic if they didn’t include a Kinect booth of sorts.

  4. All you have to do is look at the picture. It’s all kids and moms. What am I supposed to do with that? I worlds most expensive coaster. They are going to have to come a long way before I even look at this thing. And I will be at PAX. There is one booth that I can bypass.
