The Hax Life: Could You Be a Pro Gamer? [4 comments]
The Hax Life is a documentary created about pro-gamers in Korea, and wowza. I feel like I’m getting Carpal Tunnel just watching their hands move so fast!
Take a look at their APM (Action per Minute) demo:
Think you have what it takes to be a pro-gamer? Would you want to be? Discuss!

Gah! Seriously these guys have some sick skills. I would much rather be a pro console gamer than have my fingers fall off by the time I’m 30. Could I do that? Nope. Would I want to? Nope again. But I do know people who probably would and could. Cheers
Holy. Crap. That is INSANE! Kudos to them, but that’s definitely not for me. I’ll stick to my nice, simple console controllers.
I’m getting into Super Street Fighter 4 competitively, and for me, it gives me something to do when I’m not doing band practice, or at work… Something I can improve on at home, and then “take it to the streets,” if you will, and see how my work has paid off. Its a game that I can keep getting better at, where there is an infinite difficulty curve.
Its like investing time into an MMO. You have a certain character and build that you’re proud of.
I play Ken and Akuma a certain way i’m proud of, and these guys have a certain play style with WC3 and Starcraft they’re proud of.
Going “Pro,” or playing competitively i think just gives your game more depth, and more purpose; personal, in a sense.
Having spent 18 months in S.Korea and seen this side of professional level gaming. I can only hope the documentary is as fascinating as I remember it all to be. Watching all sorts of people huddled around T.V. s watching matches was something else.
As for wanting to be a professional gamer I’d imagine it would be one of those, careful what you wish for. Once stakes are raised how quickly could the fun get sucked out of it all?
I would have to stick to taking in the industry as a long time gamer and appreciating it all for the wonderfulness that it is. (corny statement FTW)
