BEST MUG EVER.

The holidays are right around the corner, and that means it’s nearing closer to the time when you freak the frak’ out because you can’t think of anything to buy for ANYONE.

But never fear! Britt is here with an awesome idea for an expensive stocking stuffer, perfect for that favorite coffee liquid drinking person in your life.

Yeah, this is a thing that almost everyone needs in their life. Heck, it could even double as a pot so you can, you know, grow a piranha plant in it.

To purchase this bad boy for yourself, check out Fangamer!

RIP Cartridges: Life-Size Samus

If you’re into Samus, I can see how this could be fun to have on display, but as a collector this makes me cringe. Think of the poor, defenseless cartridges that had their labels painted over. Think of the cartridges, man! According to the eBay description the cartridges weren’t in working condition prior to their horrible demise, but I bet the bastards were too lazy to take the time to try blowing into all of them. That always fixes EVERYTHING.

But seriously, the guys aren’t bastards and have more creative ability than I ever will. It’s just…the cartridges….

If you’d like to get your hands on this sculpture and epic work of art for your man/woman cave, you can head over to eBay and bid on it yourself. Last I checked it was only at $11, but theeeen I saw the whopping $178 for shipping. So, have at it and stuff.

(Also, you know if this had been Alistair I wouldn’t be complaining about the waste of cartridges. I’d be ranting on and on about sacrifices must be made, etc.)

Awesome Zelda Shirt is Awesome

If you’re broke from Black Friday shopping like yours truly, that must mean at one point you had at least $10. Now, I don’t know what you purchased on Black Friday, but chances are that whatever it was, it wasn’t as awesome as this threadless t-shirt.

IT’S ONLY TEN DOLLARS. And because I care about you, I thought I’d let you know that LivingSocial is holding a spend-15-bucks-get-30-dollars-to-spend dealio specifically for Threadless. Again: for $15, you get to spend $30. Chyeah.

So my friends, do yourself a favor and purchase this epicism. ‘Tis a fitting time since the recent release of Skyward Sword, no?

Steam Hacked

This message is going around to Steam users:

Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users,

Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6.  We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums.

We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums.   This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating.

We don’t have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely.

While we only know of a few forum accounts that have been compromised, all forum users will be required to change their passwords the next time they login. If you have used your Steam forum password on other accounts you should change those passwords as well.

We do not know of any compromised Steam accounts, so we are not planning to force a change of Steam account passwords (which are separate from forum passwords). However, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to change that as well, especially if it is the same as your Steam forum account password.

We will reopen the forums as soon as we can.

I am truly sorry this happened, and I apologize for the inconvenience.

Gabe

Please change your passwords, check your accounts, and stay safe!

Child’s Play

Child’s Play, one of my favorite charities, just announced their 2011 donation drive. Below is some information from their press release on ways to give. Check it out! I’m not sure if I’ll be at their auction this year, but I’ve gone in the past and it’s a lot of fun. Let me know if you’ll be attending!

Since the charity’s establishment in 2003, it has distributed more than $9 million in donations from the videogame community to entertain hospitalized children across the globe.

The annual Child’s Play charity auction will take place on Thursday, Dec. 8th, 2011 at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue.  Tickets can be purchased at www.childsplaycharity.org.  Passes will cost $145 per person and $5,000 for table sponsors.

“We are very excited to begin another year of Child’s Play and once again show the world that the video game community is altruistic as well as compassionate,” said Kristin Lindsay, Child’s Play.  “Since Child’s Play inception we have constantly been surprised by the generosity in both time and money of the community.

Those wishing to contribute to Child’s Play can:

●      Host a fundraising event http://childsplaycharity.org/events

●      Buy or donate an item on the Childs Play eBay Giving Works page

●      Give directly via PayPal

●      Become a corporate sponsor, email Kristin Lindsay

●      Mail a check to Child’s Play, 123 NW 36th Street Suite 210, Seattle, WA 98107

Kristina’s BlizzCon recap!

I was at BlizzCon this past weekend and, as promised, I will now attempt to put into to words the madness that was the two days I spent in the Anaheim convention center.

First of all, I completely broke protocol and instead of dressing as a night elf or a blood elf or whatever else girls are supposed to do at World of Warcraft-related events – I dressed like a character from My Little Pony. In fact, my friends and I all did. We have a guild called “Friendship is Magic” so we thought it fitting, though we did get one or two tight-ass BlizzCon fanatics giving us the stink eye. Everyone else loved it.

First and foremost, even though I’m about six days behind on this (hey, I was at BlizzCon) they announced the new WoW expansion — Mists of Pandaria. They’re introducing a new race (Pandaren) and a new class (Monk) as well as a whole new pet battle system that’s essentially a glorified Pokémon element added to Azeroth. The story is such that the Island of Pandaria has been shrouded in mist for some fourteen million years or something, and then due to some sea battle between the Horde and Alliance, we discover it and find the serene, harmonious Pandaren living their happy little lives. Then we fuck it up.

I think it’s cool that instead of there being another big huge boss to defeat (ie. Deathwing, the Lich King) the enemy is war itself. So we’re the bad guys. If you’re playing a Pandaren, you’re fighting the Horde and Alliance; if you’re playing your old toons, then you’re fighting the Panderan. And if we can all look past the obvious Kung Fu Panda similarities (curse you, Jack Black), it all sounds pretty cool.

I got to play the demo twice, first as a Monk (their “roll” feature is awesome!) and then again as a Mage (my personal class of choice). I only got to level 3 the first time but I almost hit level 5 the second time around (probably because I didn’t waste all that time rolling around the village). There’s no release date yet, in standard Blizzard fashion, but I’ll be pumped to play it when it does.

I don’t have most of my other pictures from the convention yet (they were taken on another friend’s camera) so I’ll just wrap up by saying the Foo Fighters concert was awesome, I got to meet most of the members of The Guild (serious fangirl alert) and overall the experience of seeing all those thousands of other gamers in one room with you was an experience I’m happy I shelled out the cash for. I will now leave you with the one other picture I have, which is me in my pony costume on an excessively large mountain thing illuminated with crazy blue light.

I can’t wait to go back next year!
