FABLE III WILL NOT BE AN RPG. (Duh/Say Whaaat?!?!)
According to developer Peter Molyneux, Fable III will not be an RPG. Given the fact that the Fable series is arguably even classified as an RPG in the first place, it was announced that there will be no traditional leveling of our characters, no experience points and progression/leveling will be based on “morphing” weapons and by the manner in which we use them.
“Kill innocents with a blade and it will begin to drip with blood, but use it to slay evil characters and it will start to glow. The more a weapon is used, the bigger it gets – we’re shown a hammer that’s been used for two hours, and it’s almost twice the size of the starter model.” [IGN]
Sounds cool, but everything still really sounds like our traditional action/adventure/RPG(ish) Fable franchise. What makes this game not classified as our typical Fable RPG? I’d say that it’s just caz Peter Molyneux says so! It all sounds very similar in terms of making decisions and choosing your missions, following a good or bad path and it still arguably seems like the same Fable action/adventure/RPG forumla.
However, what makes Fable III really interesting this time around, is that you get to rule your own kingdom! We can haz RTS? Upon hearing that we’ll get to be King of Albion, I became reaaally interested in gameplay options and the responsibilities that will be provided to us. We will be able to make judgements that pass as laws, make decisions for our city and choose to lead as an honorable or shallow leader! Sweet! I wonder how many slaves wives I can have in my Kingdom, or if my castle will be customizable, something I wished for after purchasing Fairfax Castle in Fable II. Do you think Fable is trying to become a Sims, *slash* Sim City, *slash* third person shooter?
In all actuality, there seems to be a lot of small differences in this game. Experiance points have been thrown out, replaced by the number of people who follow you (Oh so our characters have twitter?), we also dont have a health bar (the world acts as our health bar, whatever that means) and we have more in-depth and context-sensitive expressions while interacting with others.
I say I’m pretty excited! What do you think?
