Trigger Men

Things have been a bit dead on the blog while Britt headed off to PAX East and Kristina and I slowly recover from our ECCC souvenir-sickness we picked up. I tried going back to work today, since I feel a bit better, but my boss promptly told me to go home. In his words: “I’ve seen Outbreak, and I know what you are.”

Anyway, the perk of being sick is that I’ve gotten to catch up on my comic book reading. The first book I read was Trigger Men (Chapters 1 & 2).

Trigger Men is the first issue of the first series of Mike Andersen and Kyle Winter’s comic label, Triptych Books. And if this is a sign of what’s to come, then you better learn their names fast. Trigger Men tells the story of two hitmen, once being dragged back out of retirement to help his friend. The writing is smart, funny, touching, and even includes a couple twists. I’m not normally into stories about hitmen, but this pulled me in, and as soon as I finished, I wanted to read it again. The art, by Heather Brinesh, has a great feel to it. It’s not too overpowering, and adds a nice realism to the story.

I highly recommend you check out the comic and support a new, independent comic book label. You can find out more information at www.triptychbooks.com.

Tara’s ECCC Recap

Tara here, reporting from sore throat-ville, adjacent to sniffles-town. I’m dealing with a bit of the con-crud, but was able to make a quick recap video while I was slightly healthier last night. I cannot wait to read all of the sweet comics I got and tell you all about them! Let this hold you over until that day comes:

Let me know what your fave part of Emerald City Comic Con was (if you were there)!

And I’ll leave you with this, my new favorite photo of all time:

Dark Knight Rises Characters Announced: Catwoman and Bane

The new characters for The Dark Knight Rises were announced today:

Anne Hathaway as Catwoman (Or specifically, Selina Kyle. Catwoman’s alter ego.)

and Tom Hardy as Bane.

I’m a huge fan of Christopher Nolan, and have faith that he is going to make a fantastic film. And this cast? Just confirms it. These characters and actors are going to bring a lot of passion and intensity to the film, and I’m interested in seeing how they’ll be portrayed. Plus, Hathaway, Hardy, and Bale in the same movie? That is going to be one good looking cast.

What are your thoughts on these characters/actors?

First Look: Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy

Emma Stone began filming for the new Spiderman film this week, and this is the first glimpse of her in character. (Seen at the funeral for her father, Captain George Stacy.)

Thoughts? I’m gonna go with “Hot” myself… but I’m a pretty big Emma Stone fan.

Add It To Your Christmas List: Stan Lee’s How To Draw Comics

If you’re a fan of comics, it’s likely that the thought of making one yourself has crossed your mind at some point. And if you have more talent than I do, then maybe you have a chance. (You all saw my artistic snowflake skills… my drawing skills are WORSE.)

Stan Lee recently released a book on how to draw comics––but this is much more than your average “how-to” book. This book includes the history of comics, important terminology, and the artistic and literary stylings of Mr. Lee himself.

Available on Amazon for only $16.49, this is the perfect gift for your comic-loving friends.

Will you be adding this to your holiday wishlist?

Behind the Scenes at Spider-Man

You’ve probably already heard that there’s a Spider-Man musical. And you’re probably hearing people talking about how lame it is or looks.

You know what? I don’t care what they say. I think it looks AWESOME. Like, Cirque du Soleil style mind-frak of an experience.

Take a look at this segment from 60 Minutes:

Ok, I know, I know. 60 Minutes is kinda lame. The woman hosting is annoying. And the puns or jokes or whatever she was saying at the beginning? SO BAD. But Spiderman? Holy cow! I want fight scenes above me and fireworks and all kinds of crazyness! Who wants to fly me out to NY to see this in person? Please?

What are your thoughts on the musical? Is it going to be a hit or a flop?

Green Lantern Trailer

Have you seen the Green Lantern trailer yet?

I’d give you my opinion, but I just kept re-watching the first 10 seconds. I’m sorry. I’m female.

In all seriousness, it looks a little cheesy for my tastes. Your thoughts?
