So Many Collector’s Editions, So Little Money [8 comments]

I love a good collector’s edition.
Perhaps it’s the idea of the extra goodies (that come in the extra expensive editions) perched in my future woman cave, but I have as hard of a time saying no to them as I would saying no to Alistair should he materialize and ask me to join him in holy matromony.
For example:
- I told myself I wasn’t going to fork over the money for the MW2 Prestige Edition, but I ended up doing so at the last minute when launch night came. I couldn’t stand it.
- I spent a stupid amount of money on the Uncharted 2 Fortune Hunter Edition, but since the money went to Haiti my wallet didn’t sting as much as it should have.
- After falling in love with Dragon Age, I needed the collector’s edition. I frantically searched Amazon until I found a copy and bought it on the spot.
- I still have the Bioshock 2 collector’s edition and God of War 3 collector’s edition on my shelf. Did I mention they are still sealed, as in unopened and never played? No? Well they are.
So yeah, I have a hard time saying no, even when I know I won’t be able to play them anytime soon. I mean, I’ll get to Bioshock 2 and God of War 3 someday, but for the time being they just sit, look boxy and wink at me.
Ahem.
AJKDFJIDJFKDFJLDJKIUOS!!!!!!
Are you guys aware of the insane amount of collector’s editions coming our way?! A part of me is as giddy as a school girl, the other part of me is cringing at the thought of my thinning wallet.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
I only played a tiny bit of LoS while at E3. Although I can’t say it would be a definite buy for me, my grandma is so pumped about this game I’ll probably get it due to her enthusiasm. 80 buckaroos for this bad boy.
Gran Turismo 5

Besides Mario Kart, I’m not a huge fan of the genre. But I know tons of you are probably drooling or piddling yourself thinking of GT5, so I figured I’d put it up. This will run you 99 bucks.
Mafia II
Some people are pretty pumped about Mafia II. Me not so much, but then again I’ve never been a huge fan of GTA titles, and those are what Mafia II remind me of. I played like 10 minutes of the first Mafia in preparation of Mafia II at PAX East, where I played a short demo. Anyway, this will run you 70 bucks.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II

I watched my friend play the first but never played myself. I’m totally digging the USB drive. This will cost 80 bucks.
Fallout: New Vegas
Need I say more? 80 bucks.
Fable III
Ahhh Fable 3. Will you hold my attention longer than your predecessor, Fable 2? Actually, it’s my own fault I got sick of Fable 2. I dinked around with the side quests so much I lost interest in the main story. Anyway, the CE will cost ya 80 bucks and includes new quests, locations, playing cards, a guild seal coin, new dog breed and a unique outfit, according to the PR.
Dead Rising 2
THE ZOMBREX EDITION. I am so excited for this. Dead Rising’s save system frustrated me to no end, but I still love the game, and anything collector’s edition with zombies is right up my alley. The PS3 and 360 collector’s editions are slightly varied, so if you’re picking this up make sure you do your research! This will run you 80 bucks.
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood
Love Assassin’s Creed? Love a good jack-in-the-box? Then here you go. Quite frankly, this freaks me out, but if you want this collector’s edition be ready to shell out 100 bucks.
Halo: Reach
Halo: Reach not only offers the super-duper Legendary edition (pictured above) but will have a Limited edition available for purchase as well. The Legendary edition will cost a whopping 150 bucks and the Limited will set you back 80.
Ah yes, I can hear the screams of an empty bank account now.
I know I’ve missed some. If you can think of any others, let me know!
Do you usually splurge on the collector’s editions for a game, or stick with the good ol’ regular version?

Britt, the one you needed to include was the insane Assassin’s Creed one. Creepy Jester Clown-in-Box?!?! Yesplzkthx. That shit’s going to give me nightmares.
I’m all about a collector’s edition as long as it’s a game that I’m pretty certain about. I really hearted Castlevania at E3, so I could see myself going for that. Force Unleashed II as well. The others… maybe. I wanted to like Dead Rising II but it was really, really rough at E3… so we’ll see. I suspect the problems (framerate) will completely disappear by launch. They’d better. I need to kill some zombies.
I really wish Ninty would get off its ass and do some cool collector’s edition. I need me some Ninty swag like I need air. Sigh.
… Time for Kick-Ass Dollar Taco Night (in which we watch Kick-Ass and eat dollar tacos…). I gotsa go! =P
Added! Thanks brah!
Out of those ones i’d consider the Star Wars and Assassin’s Creed collector’s editions. I’ve only ever purchased one collector’s edition (FF13) since they usually cost so much, i’m usually just happy enough owning the game itself :P
No Halo Reach Legendary edition either? I know my wallet is $140 lighter due to its upcoming release.
GT5 is all paid for! Probably the only game I would fork over all that cash for since I will turn my back to society once it’s released. (oh wait I do have the GoW3 Collector’s Edition. I keep my watches in Pandora’s Box)
I already pre-ordered my copy of the New Vegas collector’s edition. I will most likely get the Halo Legendary as well
Britt, you have to invite me over for Dead Rising 2 when you get it. I’ve learned my lesson, I won’t go for the gun anymore!
